The Why?

India faces a huge burden of non-communicable diseases. Challenges such as limited access, lack of affordability, limited infrastructure, lack of skilled human resource and lack of quality healthcare makes it more difficult to deal with the disease burden in conventional ways. These challenges call for affordable, accessible yet high-quality and universal solutions especially in early stages of healthcare cycles – like screening.

While Anjani Mashelkar Foundation has been recognizing and nurturing such solutions, there still are certain gaps in terms of deploying these solutions like

Lack of comprehensive screening

Fragmented clinical data across systems

Manual and paper-based workflows

Limited continuous monitoring

Inefficient decision making

And this is where AffEx Health Platform steps in.

STORY FROM THE FIELD

Livelihood and healthcare for the far-flung villages of Kashmir

An Anjani Mashelkar Foundation (AMF) project in partnership with the Rouble Nagi Art Foundation (RNAF)

Approximate distance and travel time to the nearest hospital

Srinagar & Amrohi, Kupwara, Jammu & Kashmir (23–28 July 2026)

Initiated by Dr. R. A. Mashelkar (AMF) and Rouble Nagi (RNAF), this pilot combined AffEx's point-of-care digital screening technology with RNAF's grassroots networks. The initiative addresses the critical healthcare access gap in remote border/tribal areas where a basic check-up requires traveling 40+ minutes (over 10 km) to Tangdhar while establishing sustainable, independent livelihood opportunities for local women.

The AffEx Healthcare Screening Kit

Each compact, tech-enabled kit includes 6 screening devices/tools:

  • AI-Enabled Digital Stethoscope: Detects cardiac murmurs (congenital
    and valvular heart disease).
  • AI-Enabled Non-Invasive Haemoglobinometer: Measures blood
    haemoglobin levels.
  • Software-Based Lung Screening: Checks for TB, COPD, and asthma.
  • Digital Blood Pressure Monitor: Assesses hypertension and
    cardiovascular health.
  • Height & Weight Tools: Evaluates Body Mass Index (BMI).
  • Digital Integration: Generates a consolidated digital health report in
under 10 minutes on a Government of India ABDM-compliant
platform, linked with local government healthcare centers for patient
    referrals.

Community Health Screening
Model (4-Step Workflow)

  • Train: Local women, girls, and teachers are
trained on device operations and tablet
    registration.
  • Select: Top performers are appointed as
    community screeners and master trainers.
  • Screen: Field operators run village camps,
    registering patients and conducting full
    screenings
  • Report: ABDM-compliant reports are
generated under 10 minutes, initiating medical
    follow-ups.

Key Field Engagements & Outcomes

30+ Women & Girls Trained: Upskilled across two field centers over six days.

Srinagar (24–25 July): Islamic Educational Institute: 17–18 mothers and 6–7 teachers trained. The teaching staff will serve as master/super trainers to scale training within the community.

Amrohi, Karnah (26–28 July) Panchayat Bhavan: Focused on Gujjar and Bakarwal tribal communities (supporting GoI DA-JGUA initiatives). 11–13 college girls trained alongside local hospital health workers (CHO and FMPHW); 5 lead young women were selected as primary field operators.

Sustained Deployment: Two AffEx kits remain active in the field — one at the Srinagar school and one at the Amrohi Panchayat hall — enabling continuous screening, medical referrals, and local income generation.
